Tynker’s New STEM Activities

Tynker has new STEM-related coding activities for home users that we’re excited to share with you. A STEM education is great for kids and teens because it fosters creativity, builds resilience, encourages experimentation, and exposes them to technology, an expanding field that will open them up to countless job opportunities.

Tynker has designed blended coding and science-related activities that are great for kids because it gives them a deeper understanding of subject matter by getting them to build their own stories and quizzes. Kids can start for free but if they want to try all the activities they’ll need a paid subscription.

Five New Categories of STEM projects Added!

STEM Tutorials

We have six new STEM projects to choose from in Science, Math, Social Studies, and English that are appropriate for grades 3+. All projects have step-by-step instructions that will guide kids through creating, animating, and coding these projects.

Kids will use code to produce a unique project about topics they’re learning in school. Code a Solar System simulation, an interactive Ecological Pyramid, a working Analog Clock, and more. Kids can use the internet to research topics and add additional information.

Biodiversity

We have a dozen projects on biodiversity, in which kids can learn about habitats and the creatures living in them by coding projects like an interactive desert scene, a forest game, an underwater story, and a quiz about polar regions. Kids will learn about various species and their habitats in our biologically diverse world—and learn coding skills.

Biodiversity refers to the different kinds of life that exist on Earth, from large land animals like the African Bush elephant to small plankton that live in the ocean and so many more in habitats like Grasslands, Deserts, and Polar Regions. To help make sure that these species will be around for a long time, we’ll need everyone’s help to create systems and technology to protect them.

NASA

Explore NASA’s exciting new efforts to reach the Moon—and Mars! Kids can design an animated mission patch, imagine their life as an Artemis astronaut on the Lunar Gateway, take control of robotic rovers, and even create their own lunar habitat.

Step-by-step tutorials will help kids learn about real-life NASA missions while strengthening their coding abilities. Younger kids can use Tynker Blocks, and the older kids can try JavaScript.

This collection of space-exploration themed coding tutorials was created in collaboration with NASA! Kids can tap into their artistic side in Design a Mission Patch, get creative in Tell Your Lunar Gateway Story, take control of robots in Rover Relay, and imagine their home in space in Design A Lunar Habitat.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Kids can drive global change across the world, and we want to empower them to do just that. And, there’s no better place to start than the Hour of Code.

This series of projects will motivate kids to create solutions for global issues based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It’s time to let kids create for social good!

Kids can model solutions with Tynker Blocks (intermediate) or HTML (advanced) by trying out projects like Affordable Clean Energy, in which kids use their coding skills to create a project that showcases renewable energy, energy efficiency, and access to energy.

Minecraft Habitats

Minecraft has the ability to empower unique and creative learning experiences for kids as they experiment in their own creative sandbox.

These tutorials allow kids to create their own habitats such as a flat grassland with shrubs, rabbits, and dogs, a coral reef with tropical fish, or a mountainous landscape—with code!

They can publish these habitats into their own Minecraft world in Minecraft for Windows 10 or the Minecraft Education Edition.

Minecraft Mobs

There are so many amazing species on our planet that live all around the world in habitats like Grasslands, Deserts, and the Polar Regions. Using the Tynker Resource Editor, kids can design their own three-dimensional models of any animal they choose.

By completing these projects, kids will not only develop an awareness for these magnificent creatures that inhabit our world but also develop their three-dimensional modeling and coding skills.

To get to any of these activities, go to Tynker.comand click “Play” on the homepage. In the drop-down menu, select the “Create” button. From there, just scroll down until you find the project you’re looking for.
